Château Vannièrs
This estate is not far from Saint Cyr and incredibly beautiful but totally different to others in the area. It felt like rolling up to an Edwardian hotel on Lake Windermere rather than a Château in Var.
We were treated to taste the estate’s wine in a wonderful vaulted cave, decorated with awards and almost alter-like niches. Family photographs and memorabilia adorned the walls and Charles-Eric Boisseaux – the new generation of the Château Vannièrs estate, poured the rosé.
The 2017 that we tried had a difficult nose to navigate – perhaps it was the fact the lovely large glasses we were drinking from had been in the cellar for a few days. The rosé had an acidic front but was very enjoyable and fairly complex overall. Certainly one of the best we tasted in Bandol. Charles-Eric gave us more detail about the grape split used in this wine - 40% Grenache and Cinsault and the remainder Mourvèdre, which is added later in the process. His enthusiasm about his estate persuaded us to move on and try the white and red Bandol wines, which were simply fantastic.

Tried, tasted the 2017 Château Vannièrs Rosé at €21/bottle.
