Domaine Tempier
A lovely estate and one of the oldest and best-known in Bandol due to the family's role in establishing the AOC rules and the wine's solid reputation.
Domaine Tempier is approached through the vineyards where the old farmhouse surrounded by flowering Mediterranean bushes and dating back to 1864, is the home of the founding Peyraud family.
The degustation was poured by the very welcoming Julia who told us more about the history of the Domaine, dating back over a hundred years.
The wine we tried was the rather robust 2017 - a heavier rosé with a very firm structure and reportedly one of the best out there.
We weren’t tempted by the rather toppy Tempier for immanent consumption, however, although Julia reassured us that this rosé could be kept for 5 to 10 years - by which time it would become golden and a very respectable dessert wine.
Tried and tasted the Domaine Tempier 2017 at €21/bottle.
Destination, drop-in or drive-by? – Destination. Put this one firmly on your itinerary as it is one of the cornerstones of Bandol A.O.C. history and probably one of the most famous estates in the area.
