Domaine de la Font des Pères

The drive to the modern Font des Pères estate from Ollioules took us behind the limestone massif that borders the eastern edge of the Bandol appellation region and brought us to a small lane that climbed up steeply through the trees to an open parking plateau circled with fruit trees. We were glad of the 4x4 and this was certainly not a destination for a coach trip!

A gentle melody of Country and Western music welcomed us into the newly built restaurant of the Font des Pères and from the open and busy kitchen we were greeted with a smile. The domaine dates back to 2010 and had its first wine bottled in 2014. The 2017 rosé that we tried was 34% mourvèdre with a good blend of grenache and some cinsault with the mineral soils of the hillsides were very much in evidence in the pour. The 2016 rosé was a softer less complex taste with a distinct cherry flavouring at the back end.

Tried and tasted the Font des Peres 2017  rosé at €16.00/bottle followed by the 2017 Bandol white at €22.00/bottle.

Destination, drop-in or drive-by? Most definitely visit this estate if you can - it's light, fun and airy and the restaurant with the grand terrace and even bigger views is worth stopping for too.
