Domaine La Suffrène
This estate, like others we visited in the area used to send production to a winemaking co-operative before it was turned into a winery in its own right. This change was made in 1996 and the parcels now growing Bandol AOC are located through Castellet and La Cadière. As we entered the wine cellar our host was walking through a half-dozen of cases of wine for some clients on a small hand-truck to front-of-house.

He first poured us the ‘traditional’ 2017 Rosé, made from 40% Mourvèdre, which was light peach in colour, had a very flowery bouquet and fresh citrusy undertones. The second wine was Sainte Catherine, composed of a whopping 90% Mourvèdre. This very special rosé was certainly made for a meal and not the beach!
Tried and tasted the 2017 Bandol La Suffrène Rosé at €13.50/bottle and the Sainte Catherine at €13.50/bottle.
Destination, drop-in or drive-by? – Most definitely a destination. Try the olive oil too!
