Domaines Ott Château Romassan

It's O-T-T in title but not in style. This d'Ott vineyard, while sitting proud up a dusty chemin from the D66 road near Le Castellet, combines the traditional with the elegant. The château's shady garden complete with wrought iron gate overlooking the grapevines is scattered with cerise bourgainvillea and oleander with the soft peach brugmansia, complemented by the crumbling biscotti soil underfoot.

A boxy concrete fishpond topped with chicken wire to the side of the garden doesn't quite fit the plot but brief flashes of orange from the murky water distract the eye and add sharpness to the otherwise muted surroundings. 

The rosé wines of Bandol's Château Romassan in its unique (and we understand, trademarked) bottle shape is close to salmon in colour and the grace of glass is reflected in the fresh nose and subtle light and dry flavours of the wine.

At around €25 a bottle, this is certainly a special occasion rosé. But purchase as a gift or for a special anniversary and you will not disappoint the lucky recipient.
