La Cadierenne Co-operative
The trollies lined up outside this wine cellar say it all – stack ‘em high and sell ‘em cheap! And it was busy. We were squeezed through the rows of rosés by slow-moving white-haired folk knowing a bargain when they see one and eventually managed to attract the attention of one of the very friendly shop staff. She gave us generous pours of two of the Bandol rosés on offer, starting with the 2017 La Cadierene.
This wine had a black label (suggesting exclusivity?) which was very acidic and might go well with a curry – a very spicy curry. The 2017 Grande Tradition was marginally better.
Overall, this cave-a-vin was honest, hardworking friendly and cheap! Bring your own jerry can if you are going for the volume, no-label, 3-litre minimum fill.
Tried and tasted the 2017 La Cadierenne rosé at €7.40/bottle and La Grande Tradition at ne at €9.20/bottle.
Destination, drop-in or drive-by? Do drop-in if you need to binge-buy buy a few boxes of Bandol at the cheaper end of the market. Doing so at this establishment versus a supermarket at 10 in the morning is somehow acceptable. You won’t be the only one!
