Domaine La Chrétienne
The Domaine La Chrétienne appears to be on well-drained soils at levels slightly above Saint Cyr but within just a couple of kilometres of the sea-side town. There was plenty of work going on at the estate – perhaps a restaurant addition plus the expansion of the terrace.
The vineyard had a welcoming and friendly appeal and the active young host dressed in his cycling gear was enthusiastic but without the sales push.
He led us to a bar that dominated the small tasting room and uncorked a bottle of 2016 La Lecque rosé that was strong on the tannins highly complex and surprisingly dry. The wine had the usual blend of mourvèdre, cincault, and grenache plus carignan.
We also tried one of the reds that seemed to need plenty more time to mature and more air to breathe – it reminded us distinctly of a young Lebanese Musar.
Tried and tasted the La Lecque 2016 rosé at €16/bottle.
