La Bastide Blanche

A busy little estate in the Castellet area of the Bandol region and a hive of activity,

This vineyard felt very much like a working farm and was clearly a favourite of locals and tourists alike. The reception from the shady car park was warm and tasting in the rustic bar, unpretentious but very welcome.

We were told that the 2016 Bastide Blanche rosé comprised a majority of mourvèdre (to be expected) but also a blend clairette, ugni blanc, and bourboulerc with the cinsault and grenache. The result was a fairly heavy but sweet pour.

The 2013 rosé, meanwhile, was far more pleasant with a soft and fairly smooth length. This comprised 80% mourvèdre with an even split of cinsault and grenache.

Tried and tasted the 2016 Bastide Blanche rosé at €14/bottle followed by the 2013 at €16/bottle and purchased the latter.

Destination, drop-in or drive-by? Drop-in if passing, the welcome is friendly.
